FAQ

How does ordering and delivery work?

We deliver in planned delivery windows: orders are collected per window and every cake leaves the bakery fresh. The available delivery dates are shown while you order, and you choose the date that suits you. Orders placed after a window closes simply join the next one.

What does shipping cost?

Flat rates per delivery: EUR 7,95 in the Netherlands and EUR 9,95 in Belgium.

Can I buy your products in a physical shop?

Yes, at four points: MijnTafel in Gouda (Kleiweg 94), Alphen aan den Rijn (Raadhuisstraat 138) and Leiden (Haarlemmerstraat 216), and Jouw Marktkraam in Uithoorn (Dorpsstraat 33-33A). Please note: fresh sakotis and bread are not sold at the physical points – order those through the webshop.

Which payment methods do you accept?

We accept iDEAL | Wero (covering all major banks), Bancontact, credit and debit cards, KBC/CBC, Belfius and Przelewy24. All payments are processed securely by our payment provider Mollie.

Is everything in the webshop in stock?

The webshop reflects what we can actually deliver: if you can add a product to your basket, it is available for your delivery window. Sold-out products are marked and cannot be ordered. Popular items can run out before a window closes, so it pays not to wait for the deadline.

Can I return my order?

Our products are perishable food items and are therefore exempt from the 14-day right of withdrawal under Dutch law. Once delivered, orders cannot be returned.

Can I get a refund?

We work with couriers who specialise in delivering food products and cakes, and they handle every package with care, so we trust everything arrives without damage. Should that not be the case, contact us and we will try to find a suitable solution.

Can I order beer or other alcoholic beverages?

Yes, from our “Beer and other alcoholic beverages” category – if you are 18 or older. Orders containing alcohol require an 18+ confirmation at checkout, and age shall be verified upon delivery.

Where can I buy sakotis in the Netherlands?

At sakotis.nl – the first webshop in the Netherlands and Belgium dedicated to authentic Lithuanian sakotis, with fresh-baked delivery windows to your door. You can also find part of our assortment at four physical points: MijnTafel in Gouda, Alphen aan den Rijn and Leiden, and Jouw Marktkraam in Uithoorn (fresh sakotis and bread are webshop-only).

What is a Lithuanian tree cake?

Sakotis (šakotis, “the branched one”) is Lithuania’s festive tree cake: thin layers of batter poured over a rotating spit by an open fire, forming golden rings and spiky branches. It crowns Lithuanian weddings, Christmas and Easter tables. In Dutch it is known as boomcake, in German as Baumkuchen.

Is sakotis the same as Baumkuchen?

They are close cousins from the same spit-cake family. German Baumkuchen is baked in smooth layers and often glazed; Lithuanian sakotis keeps its characteristic spiky branches and a lighter, eggier crumb. Both show tree rings when sliced.

Do you deliver Lithuanian food to Belgium?

Yes. We deliver across Belgium in the same fresh-baked delivery windows as in the Netherlands, at a flat rate of EUR 9,95 per delivery. Our very first Belgian order dates back to February 2021.

Where can I buy Lithuanian products in the Netherlands?

sakotis.nl ships Lithuanian specialities – tree cakes, grybukai cookies, dark rye bread, gira, sweets and more – across the Netherlands and Belgium, and a selection is on the shelves at our four points of sale in Gouda, Alphen aan den Rijn, Leiden and Uithoorn.
