Our Story
Some ideas need time to bake. Ours was born around 2008, during student years in Sweden, when we learned a simple truth: the taste of home is a luxury abroad. Even one sakotis, the golden tree cake that crowns every Lithuanian celebration, was impossible to find. So a quiet plan started growing: one day we would bring Lithuania to the Netherlands. Not just the food, but the stories, the traditions and the culture behind it. Today sakotis.nl is a Lithuanian family business doing exactly that: the first webshop in the Netherlands and Belgium dedicated to authentic sakotis and Lithuanian products. Made by Lithuanians who call the Netherlands home, for everyone who wants a taste of Lithuania.

A story before a shop
On 13 February 2019 our very first Facebook post was not a sale but a story: the history of sakotis and its 15th-century baumkuchen roots. Culture first, always.
2021
The webshop opens
sakotis.nl launches: the first webshop in the Netherlands and Belgium dedicated to authentic Lithuanian sakotis, delivering nationwide in planned delivery windows so every cake arrives fresh.

Crossing into Belgium
Just weeks after opening, Belgian Lithuanians found us, and deliveries crossed the border. Our very first Belgian order arrived on 5 February 2021.

The Embassy Festival
Our first time representing Lithuania at the Embassy Festival in The Hague, where we introduced a whole new assortment. In 2026 we return for the fourth time.

Four shops in four months
From October 2025 to January 2026 our products arrived at four physical points: Alphen aan den Rijn, Gouda, Leiden and Uithoorn.
